Web - How to make a tour public

You can share your motorcycle tour with other motorcyclists in different ways. This FAQ explains how you can make the tour public for all users of www.tourstart.org

Other options for sharing a tour are covered in other FAQ's.

Required information

You only need to do the following as to make a motorcycle tour public

  1. Select public
  2. Define tour characteristic
  3. Add picture(s) and some text

 

1) Select public

Click on the keylock to open for privacy settings. Then click on "Public tour"

 

In the "Public Tour" you click on "All Tourstart users". Hereby all users on Tourstart can view and enjoy the tour.

Web - Share a tour in a BikerBed

Once you have created a motorcycle tour you can share this in a BikerBed. The advantage of sharing it with a bikerbed is the guests there can enjoy your already planned ride. 

Note - the route will also appear in "My Tour" and in the "Public" tour section.

To share the tour you do the following

It is expected you already have added some pictures and text and marked the characteristics of the tour.

Once you have created a motorcycle tour you can share this in a Bike Club. The advantage of sharing it with a bike club is the members easily can there can find and ride your motorcycle route planning.

Note - the route will also appear in "My Tour" and in the "Public" tour section.

Web - Share a tour with friends only

Once you have created a motorcycle tour you can share this with your friends only. The advantage of sharing it with a bike club is that your friends can find and ride your already planned tour.

Note - the route will also appear in the "My Tour" section.

It is not necessary having added some pictures and text and marked the characteristics of the tour.

The different icons used in Create Tour has each own function are shown in the tour below. Here a tour with the four point types used. 

 

Start

Start points are used to indicate the starting point of the tour. 

The start point of the route is green with a white flag inside. 

 

 

 

 

When click on the Start point, the below dialogue box occur, where it is possible to add the following information:

The content entered can be seen by the users when they click on the point.

The Via and Drag points on the route has a number. This is to make it easy to identify

Correct Via Point

If the Via point is more than 150 meter down the side road, you can see the pop-up with the possibility to optimize the point.

When zoomed out on the map, you will see the red exclamation sign. Then you can always see the point that needs your attention.

Zoom in and you will see the below pop-up. Click "OPTIMIZE" and the Via point is dragged onto the main route.

Correct Drag Point

If the via point is more than 150 meter down the side road, you can see the pop-up with the possibility to optimize the point.

When zoomed out on the map, you will see the red exclamation sign. Then you can always see the that  the point needs your attention.

Auto drag to route -  via point

If the drag point is less than 150 meter down the side road, it will be automatically optimized. After it is optimized you can "UNDO" this by pressing on the undo icon.

Highlight Unpaved Roads

When planning a motorcycle route it is essential to know the road conditions. By choosing the option of having the unpaved roads shown, you can see which of the roads are unpaved. 

Hereby you can actively decide whether you prefer to keep the route on the unpaved road, or you prefer the tarmac roads.

The route on www.tourstart.org is normally purple. When highlighting the unpaved roads, the part of the road is marked red. Then you can clearly see the specific road condition.

When investigating whether motorcycle routes made by others are on unpaved roads or not, you simply switch on the selecter, and any unpaved roads will be shown red.

Avoid Highway

When selecting the option of avoiding highways on your motorcycle route, the routes made will automatically be planned on other roads than the highways. 

As to ensure the route is the same when transferred to a GPS, shaping points will be added automatically. Hereby you do not need to change any settings on any GPS, but focus on having a fantastic motorcycle ride.

Avoid Ferry

When selecting the option for avoiding ferries on your motorcycle trip, the routes made will automatically be planned on other roads than with a ferry. 

As to ensure the route is the same when transferred to a GPS, shaping points will be added automatically. Hereby you do not need to change any settings on any GPS, but focus on having a fantastic motorcycle ride.

Shaping point

When making a route on Tourstart it is done by adding start, via/drag and end points on the map. Between those points a route is made.

When transferring the route to a Garmin, TomTom or any other motorcycle gps, the route is basically some points. Then the gps will automatically calculate a route between the points. 

There are situations where there is a difference between the route on Tourstart and on the GPS. This is due to the calculation formula is almost the same on e.g. Garmin, TomTom and Tourstart, but with smaller variations.

To ensure the route is as similar as possible Tourstart has developed an intelligent mechanism to add Shaping Points. The shaping points are dark blue/light blue.

You can enable/disable the Shaping Points, except selecting the options below, then it is
