Shaping point

When making a route on Tourstart it is done by adding start, via/drag and end points on the map. Between those points a route is made.

When transferring the route to a Garmin, TomTom or any other motorcycle gps, the route is basically some points. Then the gps will automatically calculate a route between the points.

There are situations where there is a difference between the route on Tourstart and on the GPS. This is due to the calculation formula is almost the same on e.g. Garmin, TomTom and Tourstart, but with smaller variations.

To ensure the route is as similar as possible Tourstart has developed an intelligent mechanism to add Shaping Points. The shaping points are dark blue/light blue.

You can enable/disable the Shaping Points, except selecting the options below, then it is necessary having shaping points:

  • Avoid highway
  • Avoid ferry

As standard a GPS is set-up for the fastest route, and with the Shaping Points, it is not necessary to make any changes in the settings of the GPS.

The illustration shows a route dragged to a road (drag points are green/grey) and two Shaping points are automatically added)
