When the created tour is to be saved on Tourstart, you have different options:

Further, you must insert at least one picture for public tours. Here you need to pay attention to using pictures from the internet or other webpages, as they are per default protected by Copyright. Ask the owner of the picture and you will find most people are kind and will give you permission for the use.

Please note - the best pictures are taken by you as they are more personal and we might  be so lucky to see you and your motorcycle in the picture.

Tourstart Transfer works like a shopping basket.

Download of GPS files

You can select which GPS file type you want to download by pressing "More download options". Then you select which type you prefer and this will be transferred to your computer.

Manual transfer of a motorcycle route to a Garmin & BMW Navigator in a few steps.

  1. Find the tour you will like to have on your Garmin
    On the tour you click on the "Add to Download"

     
  2. Download the route on your computer
    Once you have found the tour(s) you want to download, you can proceed with:
    -Click on the transfer icon in the header on www.tourstart.org
    -Select the route(s) to download
    -Open "More options"
    -Click on the Garmin icon. Now the download will automatically start.

     
  3. Find the GPX file on your computer

    Find the route file on your computer.
    Typically the downloaded GPS files are in the "Download" folder on your computer unless you have chosen another file destination.


TomTom - how to transfer a motorcycle tour

When connecting your TomTom Rider 40/400/500/550 to your computer to transfer a route, you need to enable the communication mode on the GPS. 

The TomTom Rider can only receive route files if the communication mode is enabled. This FAQ will guide how to enable the communication mode.

 

  1. Connect the computer and TomTom Rider with a USB cable. The Rider will start up.

     
  2. When the Rider is connected to the PC, this screen will appear. Push "Import routes".
    After pressing "Import routes" the GPS now connects with the computer and it is possible to transfer routes.

     
  3. Now this screen appears
    Important - DO NOT press "Done".
    When this screen is shown it is possible to transfer routes in your file manager.

  1. Download the tour to your computer
    First you need to select on www.tourstart.org the tours you want to download.

The settings on the GPS device used shall always be "Fastest route" type. 

Here is the explanation. When a route on Tourstart.org is to be calculated between two points, a standard algorithm is used. Let us call this algorithm "Type 1 - Fastest Route".

This algorithm "Type 1 - Fastest Route" is more or less similar to the standard algorithm used by Garmin and TomTom and other manufacturers of motorcycle GPS.

As to make a great motorcycle route you want to ride on the small twisty roads. As to go there, you can add drag points or via points. The route between those points are calculated with the "Type 1 - Fastest Route".

When transferring the route to the GPS device, the route is re-calculated. This is normal. Your GPS device should be set to use the same type of route calculation -
